Most of us have the big family obligatory thanksgiving feast to attend at the end of this month but one tradition we love is hosting a fall harvest dinner party with our near and dear friends. Friends are the family that we choose. They have been with us through many major life events and the everyday moments that hosting a dinner party to express our gratitude to these special relationships is the least we can do. Plus- there is something magical about a cozy dinner party where everyone is relaxed and the menu has exactly what we crave as the weather cools. So if you want to throw a Friends-giving or Fall Harvest Dinner Party here are some tricks of the trade.
The idea of the Fall Harvest dinner party is to appreciate and enjoy your friends. Party Chick and Paper can print custom invitations in-house in a few days for you to get them in the mail to your intimate group of guests.
2. Setting the Table
A burlap or linen table runner can easily warm up your table. We suggest our melamine plates and dishes that are beautiful and unbreakable. A great idea is to add the herbs to your centerpieces which add not only a beautiful accent to the flowers and candles but smell delicious too!
3. Forget the Menu- Think of the Farmers Market
When we think of fall we think of root vegetables- turnips, carrots, squash, and darker greens so head to your local farmer’s market. Greensboro’s local one is the Piedmont Triad Farmer’s Market which is open year round. Check out our Pinterest page for more fall menu ideas
4. Let Your Guest Make Their Own Drinks
Our guest like to put their own twist on their drinks and it allows everyone to have fun right off the bat! We set up a DIY cocktail bar in our living room with fresh fruit, spices, and mixers.
5. Smile & Relax
Of course things tend to go a little haywire even for the best planners but the key is to not let your stress show. If your guests see that you are frazzled this conveys to them that they are a burden. Take a deep breath, your role as host/hostess is to feed your guests and take care of them for the evening. Finishing the main cooking before guests arrive- it is okay to let the food rest. While you’re getting ready enjoy a glass of wine and remember the purpose of your dinner party- to enjoy the friends you love!
6. Leave the Dishes
Our guests always ask if they can help with the dishes and clean up but let’s be honest, no one really wants to do that so try insisting that they can leave their plates exactly where they are and move into the living rooms to have dessert.
Party Chick and Paper is Greensboro’s fabulously fun, gift, stationery, party, and holiday store. We specialize in custom invitations for engagements, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, and all parties.
